Medal of Honor 2

Greg Goodrich, exectuive producer of Medal of Honor, officially confirmed earlier this week that Danger Close, (dangerclosegames.com) is developing the sequel to the first-person shooter Medal of Honor, continuing the popular franchise.  The latest release of Medal of Honor which started selling in stores in October 2010, has already sold 5 million copies worldwide.

“Yes, Danger Close is currently working on the next Medal of Honor.”, writes Greg on the Medal of Honor blog.

“Since our launch last October, we’ve studied, listened and absorbed much of your feedback and are very excited to be marching forward on the next title. We can’t wait to tell you more about it, so check back often to the website and the fan page on Facebook.”

News of Danger Close developing the next MoH title, confirms rumors that had been swirling around early last month, after Danger Close posted job openings.  As I wrote about in January, Jonathan Leack, a writer for Playstation Lifestyle, noticed Danger Close studio has some job openings to work on an unannounced AAA first person shooter title, which some writers and bloggers have rumored to be the next title in the Medal of Honor series.

In case you haven’t seen or played Medal of Honor, here’s a look E3 Multiplayer trailer released last year.

Original Doom 1 video game

A video posted on the web site YouTube called “30 Years of First-person and First-person Shooter” was recently highlighted by online gaming magazine Kotaku

The video, which plays Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata as you watch, actually covers about 36 years of first person shooters, starting with one of the earliest games Maze War and ending with Battlefield Bad Company 2.

It’s an interesting collection of video games which can be seen below.

But if you’re really interested in what the future holds for first person shooters, video producer Freddie Wong posted an amazing video of just what they could look like.

Future first person shooter – Freddie Wong’s vision of what the future holds

future first person shooter

The very popular online video producer Freddie Wong (better known as freddiew on YouTube) who had a brief stint as a professional Guitar Hero/Rock Band player, has posted his newest video – called “Future First Person Shooter”.

The video takes a look at what the future could hold for first person shooter games and it’s absolutely amazing.  While games like the one depicted in Freddie Wong’s video won’t be available in stores anytime soon, it doesn’t get any more real than this – complete with killcam, machine guns, grenades, and much much more.

Here’s the video that was posted on YouTube on Dec. 22, and has over 5 million views in less than a week’s time.

singularity

Game Rant, the video game news and reviews site, is reporting that Raven Software is hiring employees to work on a new ‘realistic military first person shooter’.

Do you have what it takes?

Here’s what Game Rant has to say:

The development house behind Singularity, Raven Software, has been putting out the call for applications from people who want to work on an “established, console based, realistic military first person shooter” (try saying that three times fast). Raven is seeking staff members who can work on visual and other effects and game assets (modeling, textures). Speculation regarding Raven working on Black Ops DLC has been put to rest as the job listing calls for those interested to “come work with [Raven] on our exciting new unannounced title.”

Electronic Arts ready to dethrone Call of Duty franchise with Battlefield 3?

Battlefield 3

A battle royal is shaping up in the first person shooter world which is dominated by the best-selling video game of all-time Call of Duty Black Ops.

According to a story that appeared on the video game blog Kotaku entitled “The Plan To Dethrone Call Of Duty”, the EA CEO John Riccitiello told  Stephen Totilo that Call of Duty is beatable.

He has a bright view of EA’s shooter line-up for next year, which of course will be up against the next big Call of Duty that surely is coming next fall. “I have great expectations to do a lot better in 2011 than in 2010 on the strength of a couple of products like Bulletstorm and Crysis [2], but most importantly for us, Battlefield 3, which I feel incredibly good about.”

The head of Electronic Arts told Stephen: “What I’ve witnessed a couple of times in the games industry is the way you unseat a market leader is you make a better game a couple of times in a row.”

EA is going to be in for a very tough fight.  Activision is rumored to be heading towards a future landscape for its next Call of Duty game title, with Space Marines being potentially mobilized in 2011.

Battlefield 3 Beta

If you own Medal of Honor Limited Edition you will receive an invitation to the Battlefield 3 beta within 12-months following the release of Medal of Honor.

Readers, do you think it’s possible for EA to dethrone Call of Duty?

Call of Duty: Black Ops in 3D

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3D

In case you haven’t been able to experience Call of Duty Black Ops in 3D, Andrei Dumitrescu has a review over at Softpedia under the headline: Call of Duty: Black Ops – The 3D First Person Shooter Experience.

Andrei writes: ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops is a real treat with 3D glasses on and a carefully adjusted depth setting, especially when the game delivers the sort of carefully crafted complex vistas that can be seen in the level where a Soyuz capsule launch is happening or in the rooftop chase sequence.’

Despite the cost to play in 3D (which will go down in price as competition heats up in the 3D market) Andrei gives it a thumbs up for realism, ‘Weapons in particular and characters moving quickly really seem to come at the player, sometimes almost eliciting a physical response, like dodging out of the path of RPG rounds while trying to snipe the enemy that shot them.’

killzone 3

Dozens of 3D game titles are slated for the Playstation3.

One of those game titles is the popular first person shooter game Killzone 3, which is expected to be in stores on February 22nd, 2011.

According to CNET News: ‘Sony has been investing heavily in 3D both in and out of the gaming space. Earlier this year, the company updated the PlayStation 3′s firmware to support 3D games. In September, it updated the PlayStation 3 again to accommodate 3D Blu-ray movie playback. The company is also heavily invested in the 3D TV market, selling sets with the technology built-in.’

Just remember, before you get too excited about 3D gaming, consider this: you’ll need a 3D tv in order to get the 3D gameplay which will run you in the four figures.
